Decluttering: It’s Therapeutic and It’s a Good Thing

Let’s say the time has come to sell your house after you’ve lived in it for quite a few years. Then you realize you have way too much stuff. Like so many other people, you want to sell your home but have no idea how to start clearing out, decluttering, and tidying up the interior space.

A home staging specialist is the answer. They can see your home through fresh eyes.

So what’s changed over the years?

– Trends in color and decor have come and gone: The color on the walls of your home can have a major impact. The years fly by so quickly that you may not even realize it’s been 5, 6, or even 10 years since the inside or outside of your home got a fresh coat of paint.

You’ve been storing things for other people: When one of my clients had a tiny basement overflowing with furniture, do you know what their explanation was? “It’s for when the kids move out.” Let me tell you that ten years later, the kids AND the furniture are still there!

– You’ve accumulated things over the years: Little kids need so much stuff: car seats, cribs, playpens, exersaucers, and more. And when they’re bigger, there’s gear for hockey, baseball, soccer, and the list goes on.

We should all declutter at least every ten years, either on our own or with help of a home staging specialist. Once you’re done, the house will seem so much bigger and more inviting! You’ll feel more at ease and wonder why you waited so long.

Don’t wait until your house goes on the market to get rid of your excess clutter. Do it now and enjoy living more with less for years to come!

What’s the point of a pre-listing inspection?

If you want to sell your home, it’s a good idea to get an inspection FIRST to show that you’re serious—and trustworthy. Plus it gives potential buyers a heads-up on any work they might be looking at before they make an offer.
