Hampstead – Côte Saint-Luc

Living in Hampstead – Côte Saint-Luc

Hampstead is a landlocked city in Montreal. Charming and affluent, Hampstead has a population of approximately 7,000, many of whom are Jewish and English-speaking. One cannot help but be impressed by the distinctive homes, beautiful parks and lush greenery that make it a haven of tranquility only fifteen minutes from downtown,

Hampstead is built around the garden city concept. Each residence has been assigned a good-sized lot, providing ample space for a significant amount of trees, shrubs and greenery. Particular attention was paid to the curves in the City’s streets, as opposed to the usual orthogonal grid street system. Trees were also strategically planned. The unique design adopted by the founders discouraged through traffic and further enhanced the City’s appearance.

Côte Saint-Luc has a population of approximately 32,000, primarily from the Jewish and English-speaking communities. The territory covers an area of 6.96 km2. Côte Saint-Luc is a very safe city.  As one of the first municipalities in Quebec to ban the use of pesticides and to make it mandatory for cyclists to wear helmets, Côte Saint-Luc is at the forefront of health and safety issues. It is the only municipality in Quebec to have a volunteer first responder service, which began in 1980. And in 2006, it was one of the first municipalities in Quebec to establish a Citizens on Patrol program.
